A Peachtree City pizza parlor nearly struck it rich in Las Vegas earlier this year.

Partners II Pizza, which is one of the oldest restaurants in Fayette County, came home with the second prize at the pizza competition in Las Vegas.

Owner Marilyn Royal said this was the restaurant's first foray into the competition, but it definitely won't be the last.

"We're already thinking about next year's entry," she said.

The restaurant has been a Peachtree City institution for 25 years, and Royal decided to give the competition a try this year.

Georgia pizza parlors have fared well in the competition, she said.

CK's Pizzeria in Norcross has won the best pizza title two different years. The winning entry this year was a BLT pizza from Wisconsin and Royal is already working on adding that to her menu.

Partners' entry in this year's competition was the "road runner." The pizza features chipolte pepper pesto, smoked gouda, smoked provolone, fried chicken, peppers and onions.

"It has a little kick to it," Royal said.

During the competition, the ABC news magazine "20/20" conducted interviews and filmed part of the event. Royal hopes her segment makes the final cut, and encourages folks to come out and try the award winning pizza.
