The Sandy Creek Patriots basketball team keeps rolling along. After winning their first region championship, Sandy Creek is now a win away from the state quarterfinals.

Sandy Creek faced Crisp County at Crisp County High School last Friday night. The Patriots won 86-83 in overtime. Coach Rick Francis watched his team struggle on defense for most of the game but saw a gutsy performance from his team in the overtime period to seal the win. The Patriots went five for five from the free throw line in overtime which ultimately was the difference in the game.

Sandy Creek had six players in double digits in Friday's game. Bill Crumpler led the team with 17 points while Richard Lott and Corey Adams each added 14 points. Aaron Honeycutt scored 13 points, William Belton added 12 points and Cornelius Brown contributed 11 points.

The Patriots will play the Butler Bulldogs from 3-AAAA in the Albany Civic Center on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Butler is a slashing, athletic team with some good perimeter shooters. They use many different defenses and should be a good opponent. If Sandy Creek wins, they will face the winner of the Kendrick/Creekside match in the quarterfinals.
