Swing music and dancing made a big resurgence in the mid-to-late '90s.

Bands like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Squirrel Nut Zippers introduced a new generation to the big band sound and the Broadway musical "Swing," which opened at the Fox Theatre last night, showcases the different styles of swing dancing associated with the music.

"Swing" received six Tony Awards nominations, including Best Musical and Best Choreography. The show also received several award nominations from the Outer Critics Circle as well as a Grammy nomination for Best Cast Album.

The show presents a mix of jive, Latin swing, West Coast swing, country and Western swing and hip hop swing. Classic swing tunes like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "It Don't Mean A Thing (If it Ain't Got That Swing)," and "Jumping at the Woodside" are mixed with newer swing songs. "Swing" features more than 30 numbers, varying in style from comic to romantic.

"Swing" is directed and choreographed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett, who choreographed the Broadway productions of "Titanic" and "Chess" as well as the films "Footloose" and "My Blue Heaven." The show also features a neo-swing band that keeps things hopping during the show.

"Swing" will be performed through Sunday, March 3 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Showtimes are at 8 p.m. through Saturday and at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. There will also be matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets range in price from $22.50-$45 and are available at the Fox Theatre box office, any Ticketmaster outlet or online at www.broadwayacrossamerica.com.
