Teams start soccer season strong

The local high school soccer teams played their first area matches of the season last week and the results, so far, are good.

McIntosh's Lady Chiefs are 4-0 and have outscored their opponents 48-1 so far this season. The Lady Chiefs won their first three games 15-0 before defeating Newnan, 3-1 on Saturday. They played at Eagle's Landing last night and will be off until next Tuesday when they play at east Coweta at 5:30 p.m. The McIntosh boys team opened up the regular season with two wins, defeating Riverdale, 11-0 and beating North Clayton, 15-0. The Chiefs will play two games in Alabama this weekend. On Friday, Mcintosh will play Briarwood Christian and on Saturday they will take on Randolph.

Starr's Mill's girls played in the Brookwood McI tournament over the weekend and won both of their games. The Lady Panthers won 2-0 over Westminster last Thursday and then defeated Brookwood, 6-1 on Saturday. The boys, playing in the same tournament, defeated South Gwinnett, 4-0 on Friday, but lost to top ranked Brookwood, 3-0 on Saturday. Starr's Mill faced Mt. Zion yesterday and both teams will play at Milton on Friday.

Fayette County's girls started the season with two losses at the Longhorn Steakhouse Invitational. The lady tigers fell to Duluth, 3-0 last Tuesday and then lost to Lakeside-Dekalb 2-1 last Friday. The Lady Tigers hosted East Coweta yesterday and will host Riverdale on Friday. The Fayette County boys are 2-0. They defeated Henry County, 1-0 last Tuesday and beat East Coweta, 1-0 last Friday. The Tigers will play at North Clayton today and will play at Riverdale on Friday.

Sandy Creek's soccer teams have started well. The Lady Patriots defeated Tri-Cities 5-0 last Tuesday and then beat Pike County, 4-0 on Friday. The boys defeated Pike County, 6-0 on Friday. The boys faced Mt. Zion on Monday and Spalding yesterday, while the girls and boys will enter the LaGrange tournament on Thursday.
