Soccer season starts with busy weekend By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The soccer season started last weekend with jamborees and then began this week with the first official games of the season. In girls soccer, East Coweta opened the season with a 2-2 tie against Grayson in a jamboree. Since then they are 2-0. They defeated Druid Hills last Saturday, 2-0 and Griffin on Monday, 5-1. East Coweta will face Fayette County in Fayetteville next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Fayette County opened their season with a 3-0 loss to Duluth in the Longhorn Steakhouse Invitational on Tuesday evening. The Newnan Lady Cougars opened the season with a 5-2 win against Douglas County. They will face second ranked McIntosh in Peachtree City on Saturday at 3 p.m. McIntosh went 2-01 in the Westminster Jamboree last weekend and faced Lovejoy and Riverdale earlier this week. Tonight they will host North Clayton at 5:30 p.m. Sandy Creek's girls started their season with a 5-0 win against Tri-Cities on Tuesday. They will travel to Pike County toinight for a 7:30 game. Sixth ranked Starr's Mill, which also competed in the Westminster Jamboree last weekend opened their season with a 1-1 tie against Walton. Alison Graham, a Parade All-American and Gatorade Georgia High School palyer of the Year, scored the Lady Panthers only goal. They were scheduled to meet Westminster yesterday and ninth ranked Brookwood at 6 p.m. tomorrow in the Brookwood MCI tournament. The Starr's Mill boys will also compete in the tournament. They will face South Gwinnett tonight at 5:30 p.m. and top ranked Brookwood tomorrow at 8 p.m. The boys lost to sixth ranked Pope, 2-0 on Tuesday night. Fayette County opened their season with a 1-0 win over Henry County. Adam Lester scored the lone goal off of a direct kick in the first half. The Tigers will host East Coweta tonight at 7:30 p.m. McIntosh which started with three losses in the Brookwood jamboree last weekend hosted Riverdale last night and will face North Clayton tonight at 7:30 p.m.
