The winter high school athletic season is drawing to a close, but the spring sports are right around the corner.

In fact, soccer begins its preseason today.

Fayette County's boys team will host a jamboree at 5 p.m. One of the teams competing against the Tigers will be Lovejoy.

Tomorrow, Sandy Creek's boys and girls head to LaGrange High School for a day of soccer exhibitions, while McIntosh's boys head to Pope High School. The Chiefs will face Pope, Brookwood and Parkview Saturday with games beginning at 10 a.m. The games should be highly competitive and may be a preview of a state final game.

McIntosh's girls team and the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers will play in the Westminster Jamboree. In addition to a McIntosh-Starr's Mill match, the two teams will also face Westinster and Parkview. The McIntosh-Starr's Mill match is scheduled for 1 p.m.

To get to Westminster High School, take I-75 north to West Paces Ferry/Northside Drive exit. Go left at the end of the ramp onto Northside Parkway and take a left on West Paces Ferry Road. The first driveway on the left after crossing over the bridge at Nancy Creek is the driveway for Westminster.

To get to Pope High School, take I-75 to exit 267 A/Canton Road Connector. Take Canton Road Connector north to the first traffic light. Make a right onto Sandy Plains Road and stay on Sandy Plains Road for about 3.5 miles. Turn right on Post Oak Tritt Road (at the McDonalds). Stay on Post Oak Tritt Road for about two miles. Make a left on Hembree Road. Follow Hembree for about one mile. Pope is on the left side after the bridge.
