BOYLAN
Two games left in the regular season of high school basketball. Two games to build or maintain momentum and two games to raise seeding in the region tournament. The local basketball teams played last Friday and saw some mixed results. Sandy Creek's boys and girls won, while McIntosh's boys and girls and Fayette County's boys and girls split in their respective games. Sandy Creek's girls continued their impressive 2002 campaign with a 47-23 win over Union Grove on Senior Night. The Lady Patriots took control early and led 19-6 at the half. Tiffany Paschal scored 15 points and Tracey Paschal added 10 points and five steals, while Jennifer Jarascz contributed nine points and two steals. "The girls played with good intensity," said Coach Jim Waller. "We're 8-2 since the first of the year and we've got two important games in the regular season still ahead of us." The boys won 76-42, aided by a 38-18 lead at the half. Aaron Honeycutt scored 16 points, Richard Lott added 15 points and William Belton and Corey Adams each added 10 points. Sandy Creek played at Westlake last night and will play at Jones County on Friday. McIntosh hosted Evans on Friday for their senior night as well. The Lady Chiefs won 54-24 but the boys lost 52-43. The boys team trailed for the entire game. They were led by Scott Prah with 12 points and Patrick McDonough with eight points. The boys were led by Josh Burr's 26 points while Alfred Boykin contributed 10 points. The Tigers led by five points at the half but the games was tied 72-72 with a minute to go. The Lady Tigers had built a 30-19 lead at the half but only scored four points in the third quarter and Lovejoy scored 26 points in the fourth quarter almost as many points as they had scored in the previous three quarters. Fayette County hosted Newnan last night and will host Jonesboro on Friday. The Starr's Mill Lady Panthers lost to Jonesboro last Friday, 64-46. Starr's Mill will play at East Coweta on Friday to wrap up the regular season.
