Swim teams and wrestling teams prepapre for county and area tournaments By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Our local swimming and wrestling teams will face off this weekend as they prepare for the upcoming state tournaments. The county swim meet, featuring Fayette County, McIntosh, Sandy Creek and Starr's Mill begins at 5 p.m. at the Kedron Aquatic Center. The area 4-AAAAA wrestling meet, featuring East Coweta, Fayette County, McIntosh and Starr's Mill among others, will take place in the Fayette County High School gym at 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. tomorrow. Sandy Creek High School will host the area 4-AAAA wrestling meet tomorrow at 9 a.m. Starr's Mill won the county swim meet last year and hopes to win it again this year. This meet also offers the swimmers one more chance to qualify for the state meet, which takes place Feb. 14-16 at Westminster. Eagle's Landing has been a step ahead of the young Panthers this year and is the top contender at this year's meet. The other local teams will make this interesting. Fayette County, East Coweta and McIntosh all have wrestlers that can pull off upsets and shake up the results of each weight class, which will ultimately affect the outcome of the tournament. Anything can happen at the area meet and all of the local teams are hoping for things to go their way. Sandy Creek is hosting the area 4-AAAA meet and though they aren't favored to win the area title, they have several wrestlers hoping for a shot at heading to the state tournament. The top four wrestlers in each weight class in the region go to the state tournament, which will take place next weekend. The Class AAAAA state tournament will take place in Perry, Ga. and the Class AAAA tournament will take place in...
