Comedy comes to Fayette County

If you like to laugh, you may want to clear your calendar for Thursday, Feb. 7 and every Thursday thereafter.

Hangar 74, on Ga. Highway 74 just past Pike Nursery and Gold's Gym, has contracted with the Comedy Zone to become part of the comedy national circuit. Beginning the 7th, the club will offer dinner and comedy from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

The restaurant is not ready to announce the big headliner yet, but general manager Mike Cappella says he is working on getting some well-known names to help kick off the new weekly dinner show.

The dinner show will begin at 6:30, with a choice of three entrees such as chicken cordon bleu, roast beef or vegetarian lasagna with all the fixings. The comedy show will begin at 8 with two comedians performing until 9:30. After the show the club will open to the public for three hours of karaoke.

Those who prefer not to eat can purchase tickets for the comedy show alone. Prices are $20 for the dinner show or $10 just for the comedy show. "Its affordable, it's local and it's great entertainment without traveling to Atlanta," Cappella said.

The new Comedy Night is Cappella's brainchild. Cappella traveled the comedy circuit at one time with comedian friend Phil Kelly, playing backup for some comedy routines. He said it has always been his dream to open a comedy club.

"This is going to be absolutely great," he said. "I think it's a wonderful idea to have something like this in the area. It's my cup of tea, too."

The comedy offered by the professional comedians will be "clean comedy," Cappella promised. The pub will be smoke free during the dinner comedy show.

Hangar 74 is owned by Peachtree City residents Mark and Tina Aasen. It is primarily a sports pub with an aviation theme understandable given Mark's profession as a Delta pilot. The couple opened the club as a result of a desire to provide the area with something they missed, a neighborhood pub.

Tina, originally from Chicago, helped model the club after the many neighborhood pubs she was familiar with in her hometown. Mark noted that the pub, as they call it, has been through an evolution since opening a year ago under a different name. He feels they now have it "looking like we wanted." Watch closely for more changes based on input from the clientele.

The club has 14 TVs and a big screen. Cappella said, "We have great food, great prices and a friendly atmosphere. We also offer a different venue on different nights." Tuesday night is ladies night and aviation night. Specials are offered, as well as gun camera video games. War movies are the feature show on the club's big screen Tuesdays.

Karaoke is the flavor of the night Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to midnight. The karaoke team from "It's Your Time Karaoke," featuring more than 5,600 songs, helps entice those who've always wanted to sing up onto the stage for a song or two.

Friday nights the Hangar brings in a love band from the area. The owners will soon add a dance floor for those who like to dance. Saturday night is karaoke again from 8 p.m. to midnight.

According to Cappella, "Tickets are on sale now at the Pub for the first show and they are going fast. We have limited seating so get yours early."

Make reservations online at www.Hangar74.com, stop by Hangar 74 or call 770-631-1980. Group rates are available. Reservations are suggested, although tickets may be purchased at the door if available. Space is limited.
