Wrestling fans won't have to go far to see some top class wrestling this weekend as Fayette County will play host to the Area 4-AAAAA meet on Friday and Saturday and Sandy Creek will host the Area 4-AAAA meet on Saturday.

The top three contenders for the Area 4-AAAAA title are Eagle's Landing, Starr's Mill and Fayette County but East Coweta and McIntosh could make things interesting with some early round upsets.

Fayette County won the Lion Invitational at Central Carrollton High School. Hiram placed second and East Coweta placed third. The Tigers had four individual champions; James Bouie (275), Zach Nelson (140), Will Barnes (189) and Adam Piscarcik (130). Second place finishers were Matt Kellerman (125), Patrick Kellerman (145) and Joe Strickland (171). Thomas Lowery (103) place third.

Starr's Mill placed second in the Panther Duals last weekend with Westminster placing first. The Panthers had four wrestlers finish 5-0 in the tournament; Tyler Kourajian (103), Michael Cosper (112), Patrick Bates (119) and Andy Smith (275). Starr's Mill finished the season with a dual record of 24-6.

The week before the Panther Duals, Starr's Mill placed second in the Area 4-AAAAA duals, losing to Eagle's Landing, 36-26, but defeating Mt. Zion, Jonesboro, 58-6; Henry County, 63-9; McIntosh, 50-15 and Fayette County, 36-33. The county wrestlers are very familiar with each other and have proven that anyone can win on a given day.

McIntosh faced Troup County and Newnan on Friday and wrestled in the Cherokee Duals on Saturday. The Chiefs lost to Troup County, 6905 and defeated Newnan, 62-15. On Saturday, McIntosh placed sixth. They defeated Shiloh, 40-23 and lost to Cherokee, 41-24, Eagle's Landing, 70-9 and Kennesaw Mountain, 60-0.

Coach Nick Bellantoni cited good performances from Ryan Winter (103), David Lee (119), Justin Edwards (130), Mike Horn (140), Andy Ellinas (152), Lee Hyunh (189), Darryl Walter (215) and Brian Kelsch (275). Edwards went 3-1 in the duals on Saturday. Bellantoni thinks his team could shake some things up in the tournament this weekend.

"We're very young, after losing some wrestlers during the year, but we might make some noise this weekend and should finish in the top 10."

The meet will be in the Fayette County High School gym and will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
