Prince of Peace Lutheran dedicates new facilities Sunday

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fayetteville will dedicate its new 13,000 sq. ft. Life Center and new 206-space parking lot in a special ceremonial service this Sunday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m. Bishop Ron Warren of the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will join senior pastor Justin Kollmeyer to preside over the festivities.

"This will be a miracle day," said church member and children's choir director Deanna McAteer. "The Lord has blessed us and carried us throughout the long process. It will truly be a day of joy in the Lord."

All the church's musical groups will contribute to the service, including children's choirs, youth choirs, the adult choir, the contemporary band, and the organist.

"It will be a full celebration," said Rise Rudy, director of the Peace Choir.

In addition, Bishop Warren will preach the sermon and officially dedicate the building and parking lot.

"The new Life Center is the reality of a vision that came from long-range planning nearly 10 years ago," Kollmeyer said.

The facility will serve both as an auditorium for contemporary worship and special programs, and as a multipurpose gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and other games and activities. It will serve as a banquet hall with seating capacity of up to 400, and as a resource for ministry with adults and senior members. The center also includes three new classrooms.

The new parking lot doubles the number of spaces previously available, and includes eight handicapped spaces and a planned reserve section for those age 70 and older. A circle drive creates a landscaped area for fellowship and visiting.

"We're here to serve this community," Kollmeyer said. "We want to be open and accessible to all our neighbors here on the south side of Atlanta. We want to provide a place with programs and activities that will help people connect their normal, everyday lives with their spiritual lives. We hope people without a church right now will come and check us out. We believe they'll find something a little different and want to stay."

Prince of Peace offers three regular morning services every Sunday, with an early service at 8 a.m., a contemporary Praise Band service at 9:30 a.m., and a traditional liturgical pipe organ service at 11:15 a.m.
