Mmmmmm, pancakes and sausage.

The Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City is getting ready for its 10th annual Pancake Saturday, which will be at McIntosh High School this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The annual event features all you can eat pancakes and sausage, face painting booths, balloons, a barbershop quartet and, as always, the highly competitive pancake eating contests. This year there will be three contests. The Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City has issued a challenge to other Kiwanis Clubs at 10 a.m. The Children's Challenge will begin at 11 a.m. and the Ministers' Challenge will begin at noon.

The Kiwanis Club estimates that members use 800 pounds of sausage, 600 pounds of batter, 10,000 ounces of syrup and 100 gallons of coffee each year.

Many local banks have helped sponsor this year's event and raffle tickets are available at BB&T, Bank of America, 1st Community Bank, First Union, Heritage Bank, Peachtree National Bank, Regions Bank, Southern Community Bank, Sun Trust, Talbot State Bank, the Bank of Georgia and Wachovia for a chance to win a case of Thomas Packing Company's sausage, which is the sausage featured at the event. The Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center donates the pancake batter mix each year.

J93.3 FM will have its Family Fun Patrol at the event from 9-11 a.m. and will give away prizes.

There were 3,051 tickets sold to last year's event, which provided over $8,500 to be used to support a number of events in the community. Proceeds from this event are placed directly back into the community.

The Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City has served the community for 29 years. It meets every Monday at the Wyndham Conference Center at 7 a.m. for breakfast, fellowship and the opportunity to visit with informative speakers or programs of interest. Some examples of the causes the club supports are the Children's Miracle Network, Meals on Wheels, Special Olympics, the Independence Day Parade, VOCA and the Joseph Sams School, as well as many others.

Tickets to the 10th annual Pancake Saturday are $4 per person and can be purchased in advance from any Peachtree City Kiwanian.
