Starr's Mill places fourth at eagle, prepapres for Area duals meet

Starr's Mill's wrestling team competed in the Eagle Classic wrestling tournament at Northside Warner Robins over the weekend. The Panthers placed fourth behind Troup County, Northwest Whitfield and Sequyoah respectively.

Starr's Mill had one second place finisher, three thrid place finishers and a fourth place finisher in the tournament. Kyle Verzello placed second (152), while Michael Burke (130), Scott Hartpence (135) and Andy Smith (275) placed third and Daniel Fuhrmann (215) placed fourth.

The Panthers will face the team that edged them out of the top three this weekend, Seqouyah, on Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at Sequoyah. They will also compete in the Area 4 duals this Saturday along with McIntosh High School, top contenders Eagle's Landing High School, Fayette County, East Coweta and three other squads.

McIntosh qualified for the meet by defeating Morrow and Jonesboro on Tuesday night in a quad meet. The Chiefs also faced Eagle's Landing. McIntosh lost to the Golden Eagles, 64-9 but defeated Morrow and then edged out Jonesboro, 42-40.

The top two teams from Saturday's Area 4 Duals will advance to the Class AAAAA duals on Feb. 16 at Collin's Hill High School. Sandy Creek will wrestle in the Chattahoochee Invitational today and tomorrow.
