River's Edge to offer math and music program for children Elementary students (grades two through five) will have the chance to boost their prospects on standardized testing in all Georgia schools this spring through a program offered by River's Edge Community Church in Fayetteville. A "Math and Music Program" will be offered on a first "registration" basis Saturday mornings, Feb. 2, 9, and 23, from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The program director is Ann Nunan, a former Fayette County Teacher of the Year. "The math component will consist of fun and interesting grade level activities focused on measurement," said Nunan. "Throughout the program an enjoyable hands-on approach will be used as children use measurement skills to build model cars. Older children will power their cars with electric motors and younger children will use propellers." The music aspect of the program will be led by the church's worship leaders, Rob and Brandi Tindel. The graduation will feature the children in song. Nunan said the program is made possible through a grant from the Mustard Seed Foundation in Washington, D.C. "This is the second program our church has conducted of this nature," she said. "Children from diverse backgrounds participated in a Reading and Science Camp last August. We turned down 50 children because of a limited number of available tutors. This time, we hope to have additional tutors in order to serve the needs of our community." To insure quality teaching and learning, enrollment is limited. Parents are advised to register their children as soon as possible since children will be accepted in the order of their registration. To register, call River's Edge Community Church, 770-719-0303 or Ann Nunan, 770 719-3665. |
