Local publisher offers children an explanation of Sept. 11events

Peachtree City's Gallopade International announced recently the expansion of its "The Day That Was Different" series of books and activities related to the events of Sept. 11, the war on terrorism, biological warfare and other subjects that students have questions about that they are begging moms, dads and teachers to answer.

Within two weeks of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on America, Gallopade, widely known in the educational and parenting community for its handling of sensitive material for students ages 7-14, released "The Day That Was Different: September 11, 2001-When America Was Attacked by Terrorists" and "United We Stand: The War Against Terrorism."

"Because of the instant need and demand for these two books and their companion reproducible activity packs, we were able to identify the immediate questions kids had and provide timely and appropriate answers," said Sherry Moss, Gallopade sales manager, from the floor of the National School Supply show in Charlotte.

"At the National Social Studies Show in Washington, D.C., teachers still had major requests for materials focusing on books for students regarding both short term current events as well as long term considerations of how they will affect the U.S. and the world."

Therefore, Gallopade has announced the forthcoming publication of several books about Afghanistan, bioterrorism and chemical warfare, all to be released in January and to be widely available in school supply and book stores, as well as direct from the publisher.

The books have been written by Gallopade's award-winning author, Carole Marsh. Each title will focus on the history, people, places and more about the main subject and include activities for readers to complete to help their understanding of the facts.
