House Red brings Brooklyn to Baci with 'Brighton Beach Memoirs' By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Neil Simon, one of the most prolific playwrights of our time, wrote a semi-autobiographical trilogy that followed the life of Eugene Morris Jerome from the streets of Brooklyn to the U.S. Army and to the Broadway stage. The first play, "Brighton Beach Memoirs," which will be performed by House Red Theater Company at Baci Italian Cuisine in Fayetteville, showcases his home life as a 15-year-old before World War II started. Eugene, played by Craig DeLorenzo, lives with his parents, Kate and Jack (Michelle Fail and Brad Boseman), his brother, Stan (Josh Davis), his Aunt Blanche (Patrice Azzarito) and his two cousins, Laurie and Nora (Susan Powell and Carlee Baker). The play is directed by Stuart Fail, who sees "Brighton Beach Memoirs" as a nice, family-oriented show. "It is a funny play about a good family trying to maintain their goodness through difficult times," said Fail. "That theme seems especially relevant today." "Brighton Beach Memoirs" will be presented Monday, Dec. 17, Thursday-Sunday, Dec. 20-23, and Friday and Saturday, Jan. 4 and 5. Performance times will be 6:30 dinner and 7:30 showtime Monday, Thursday and Sunday and 7 p.m. dinner and 8 p.m. showtime for Friday and Saturday performances. Tickets are $30 and include dinner and the show. There are also $5 off coupons floating around in circulars. Phone Baci at 770-460-7778.
