Panthers and Lady Patriots get region wins By MICHAEL

The local basketball teams played region matches on Tuesday night and the results were great for some and ot so great for others. Sandy Creek's boys faced Woodward Academy and won 76-68. William Belton scored 29 points while Corey Adams and Bill Crumpler added 14 points. The patriots performed well offensively but left some holes open on defense, allowing eight War Eagle three pointers. The Sandy Creek girls lost to Woodward Academy 45-39. The Lady Patriots built a 19-11 lead at the half but fell behind in the second half after Woodward made some adjustments, forcing a number of turnovers. Tiffany Paschall scored 12 points for sandy Creek and Jessica DeMooney added nine points. Sandy Creek plays at Salem High School tonight at 7 p.m. Starr's Mill played Fayette County on Tuesdsy night and played some outstanding basketball. Erin Ricker shattered the single game scoring record and helped lead the Lady Panthers to a 69-48 win. Ricker scored 29 points, beating the previous record of 26 held by Alison Horne, now a member of the Fayette County team. Ashley Marine contributed 21 points to the winning effort. "The entire team played a great game, especially on defense." said Coach Teresa Hobbs. "We held Horne to only two points on the night and she's been the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers." Starr's Mill hopes to keep up their intensity this weekend as they travel to take on Eagle's Landing and Stockbridge. Games begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers will travel down the road on Tuesday to take on McIntosh. tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. McIntosh's boys and girls faced some tough Jonesboro teams on Tuesday and lost. The girls lost a close one, 48-42, while the boys lost big, 72-37. Aaron Haight and Drew Hartley each scored nine points, while Ben Allen added eight points. McIntosh will host Morrow tonight at 7 p.m. before hosting Starr's Mill on Tuesday.
