Sandy Creek drama presents murder mystery

Monday, Oct. 15 was a nerve-wracking day for many drama students. Right in the middle of auditions for "The Long Red Herring," the school was placed on alert, and auditions were temporarily moved to the gymnasium. Fortunately, there was no real threat, and auditions proceeded as planned. Despite this interruption, the students gave terrific cold readings from the script.

"The Long Red Herring" is a murder mystery; six students from a creative writing class are sequestered in their professor's home in order to "solve a murder". For their final exam, the students must analyze clues planted by the professor, and create a solution. However, the game becomes terrifyingly real to some of the students. Dead bodies are discovered and lost, the electricity switches off and on mysteriously, and gunshots are heard off stage, creating a tense, thrilling atmosphere. Director Kathy Andersen warns viewers, "There are three plot twists in the last ten minutes so don't miss a moment of this terrific thriller!"

The cast includes Cliff Turner as the irascible Professor Kleine, Nicole Carmolingo as his hapless sidekick, Coach Hacker, Hannah Johnson as helpless, apologetic Mary Jane, and Tracy McBurnett as Didi, the tough kid who may not be all that tough. Additional cast members include Josh Lynch as Bojo, the too-dumb-to-be-true, junk-food guzzling athlete, Joey Ellington as the cocky, overconfident Rudy, Leia Berry as Lynn, who is obsessively organized, and Carly Marrs, as sophisticated, intellectual Kate.

The Long Red Herring will be produced December 6, 7, 13, and 14, in the Black Box at Sandy Creek High School. Tickets will go on sale in December. For more information, please call Kathy Andersen at (770) 969-2840 extension 259.
