Local girl boosts Emory to conference championship
When a team is after a conference championship title, you nee runners who can rise to the occasion by running their best. Junior Nikki Craver of Peachtree City did just that for the Emory University women's cross country team. Craver completed the conference championship race in 20:24, a new personal best by 44 seconds. The McIntosh graduate placed 48th out of 76 runners overall. "Nikki is one of my favorite atheltes on the team," said Emory Coach John Curtin. "She's always there, always upbeat and always working hard." Craver has shown improvement this season. This was the first year that she made Emory's conference travel squad, which is made up of the top 10 runners on the team. She also improved her season average tim by a minute and 40 seconds. "Nikki is as hard a working athlete as we've ever had," said Curtin. "She is involved in a lot of activities on campus and she's always busy with something, but she still makes time for the team and its training." Emory captured its first conference championship title since 1988. They won the NCAA Division III regional championship for the 11th consecutive year and found themselves ranked 20th in the national poll earlier this month. Craver is the daughter of Ed and Angele Craver of Peachtree City.
