Three wins for local team in first rund of playoffs
Starr's Mill entered the state football playoffs last Friday by hosting the Benedictine Cadets. The field was slick from a day full of rain, but the Panthers had no trouble marching up and down the field on their way to a 31-14 win. Starr's Mill scored the first 10 points thanks to a 38 yard field goal from Jon Vickers and a two yard touchdown run by Recarta Heard after an interception from Johnny Edwards was returned to the Benedictine nine yard line. The Cadets did not score until midway through the second quarter when they scored off of a four yard touchdown reception. Starr's Mill answered back with impressive runs by Chris Strauch and a three yard touchdown reception by Bobby Clark. The Panthers went into the locker rooms with a 17-7 lead at the half. The Panthers continued their domination in the second half with a 36 yard touchdown run by Strauch. Benedictine scored a minute later with a 30 yard touchdown reception and looked to get back in the game after the Panthers were forced to punt on their next possession. Howver, a Cadet fumble on their 10 yard line turned the tides again as Strauch had a seven yard touchdown run soon after. Strauch finished with 161 yards on the night, while Clark added 81. The Panthers must travel this Friday as they are scheduled to take on Northside, Warner Robins. The Eagles (9-0) have only given up 64 points all season.
