Development authority is pleased with small business school success

The Fayette County Development Authority in partnership with the Continuing Education Division at Clayton College & State University and the CCSU Small Business Development Center announced the completion of the community's first small business success school class as part of the Fayette County Development Authority's Small Business Academy.

More than 12 entrepreneurs attended the series or individual classes during the 12-week program.

This first-of-its kind program was designed around six-sessions that met twice monthly since September.

The evening training classes, three hours each in length, covered the basics of starting a small business including legal and tax issues, business planning, finding money, marketing, accounting and leadership skills.

Each student completed the series equipped with the necessary information to launch a new business.

"Economic development means more than the recruitment of large industry; it must also support local citizens and taxpayers as they strive to provide a positive impact on the local economy," said Development Authority CEO Chris Clark. "We hope to offer more programs aimed at enhancing the entrepreneur community in Fayette County."

The Small Business Academy provides three avenues for local entrepreneurial assistance. The Entrepreneurial Success Series, a set of monthly luncheons taught by trained and successful professionals, will resume in the winter. The Small Business Success School will offer another multi-session in the spring and the Small Business Consultations conducted by Clayton State will continue.
