Timing changes at 54/74 to inconvenience traffic

Motorists, be prepared for some inconvenience maneuvering through the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 74 in the coming months.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will be making adjustments to the timing sequence to coordinate the traffic lights in the area over the next several months, according to City Engineer Troy Besseche. Although a timing sequence is in place, the DOT is still "tweaking" the system, Besseche noted.

Construction activity in the area may also cause problems with the signal system from time to time, he said.

Last week, construction activity caused problems when the timing sequence was interrupted and the traffic signals reverted to a default timing plan, Besseche explained. That caused traffic to back up in all directions, he added.

"We will make every effort to minimize these construction related interruptions," Besseche said.
