Comments sought on Fville police services for accreditation process Public comment on the Fayetteville Police Department's services will be taken at a special meeting held as part of the department's push to become a nationally-accredited police agency. Members of the public who can't attend the meeting will be given an opportunity to provide comments by phone during a brief period or send in written comments. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 17 in the City Council chambers at City Hall. The phone line for public comment will be opened the same day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested must call 770-460-4248 to take advantage of this offer. All comments will be limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with standards provided by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Written comments can be mailed to CALEA at 10306 Eaton Place, Suite 320, Fairfax, Virginia 22030-2201. The public meeting is part of the on-site assessment that will be conducted of the department. A team of law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state agencies similar to Fayetteville will conduct the on-site assessment, according to Lt. Beverly Trainor of the Fayetteville Police Department. The assessment team will examine all aspects of the department, focusing on such areas as policies and procedures, administration, operations and support services. The goal of the assessment is to verify that the department has complied with accreditation standards. John Munford
