'Miss Boo' celebrates 90th birthday By CAROLYN CARY
Family and friends of Elizabeth Redwine Ramsey, known locally as "Miss Boo," gathered recently to help her celebrate her 90th birthday. Among those in attendance were her husband of 46 years, Sam, sisters Henrietta R. Dennis and Jane R. Dickerson, and seven nephews and nieces. Ramsey still lives in the house where she was born, at the corner of Ga. highways 54 and 85 in Fayetteville. She and her three sisters lost their mother, Clifford Burks Redwine, when Elizabeth was 14 years old. Her father, Charles Davenport Redwine, reared the children and saw that they were well-educated. The fourth sister, Josephine R. Carmichael, is now deceased. Elizabeth served as her father's hostess through his senatorial years in the Georgia General Assembly and also when he served as the state's Commissioner of Revenue. He died in 1955. She also served as Fayette County's school superintendent in the early 1940s. According to "The History of Fayette County," she updated textbooks, found the cheapest sources for school supplies, and supervised a school curriculum so that the same subjects were taught in all of the schools. Miss Boo has faithfully served her church, the Fayetteville United Methodist Church, her entire life. She married Sam Ramsey at Christmas, 1955.
