New Hope's Living Christmas Tree is a musical search for faith By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
New Hope Baptist Church is putting the finishing touches on its 16th presentation of the Living Christmas Tree. The original show is a favorite in the area and tickets are going fast. More than 350 people participate in the show that features a choirs, a full orchestra, dancing, comedy and drama, as well as an enormous, fully lit Christmas tree that contains much of the action. Cast members range in age from grade school through senior citizens. The story is set in 1955 and focuses on a girl who has lost her faith since her father went missing in World War II. She works through her anger and loss, deals with a comedic love interest named Harvey and finds her faith once again. The show was written completely in-house by John Conrad and others on staff at New Hope. "In today's climate, people are searching for faith, something bigger than themselves," said Conrad. "The show deals with that search and we have a lot of fun doing it." Performances of The Living Christmas Tree will be Wednesday through Sunday, Dec. 5-9. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Phone 770-461-4337 to reserve tickets. |
