The playoffs are coming! The playoffs are coming! And once again there are several local teams competing in them.

East Coweta went undefeated during the regular season, snaring a 42-0 win last Friday over Forest Park. The Indians got touchdowns from Nick Britt, Jake Harris, J. P. Weaver, Preston Stricklin and Derek White. East Coweta will host Region 3-AAAAA opponent Wayne County (7-3) on Friday. The Yellow Jackets three losses came to Valdosta, Benedictine and Camden.

Starr's Mill defeated Newnan 14-13 on Friday after the Cougras missed a point after attempt that would have tied the game. The Panthers were crowned Region 4-AAAAA Division B Champs thanks to two touchdown runs from Chris Strauch and great defense from Neal Sebastian, Jason Earwood and Daniel Fuhrmann. Starr's Mill produced 247 yards of offense and held the Cougars to 240 yards of offense. The Panthers will host the Benedictine Cadets (7-2) on Friday. The Cadets lost to Camden and Bradwell Institiute this year but outscored their opponents 278-62 in their wins.

Sandy Creek (4-6) finished their season on a winning note as they drilled Pickens, 41-0. The Patriots scored 21 points within 10 minutes after starting the game. Kelvin German had 167 yards and two touchdowns in the game, leading him to set new school records in total yards in a season with 1,274 and touchdowns in a season, 11. German also currently holds the school record for most yards in a game, 274 and most touchdowns in a game, three.

Sandy Creek got great performances from the entire team last Friday, while rushing for 366 yards and passing for 67. Jack O'Neill, Phillip Hyde and Brian Brown added rushing touchdowns, while Will Judson added a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown. Ty Owen and Jermaine Jones both had fumble recoveries in the win.

McIntosh (2-8) also ended the season with a win, beating Morrow, 26-8. The Chiefs got touchdowns from Markuiz Griffith, Cameron Hall and Devin Lemons, as well as two field goals from Omar Jarun. The Chief defense was stingy, limiting the Mustangs to one touchdown and forcing a number of three and outs. Scott Prah ended the final Mustang drive with an interception.

Because it was an out of region game, Landmark Christian School did not reschedule its game with Athens Academy. The War Eagles will open the playoffs with a rematch against the Bremen Blue Devils. Landmark (6-3) defeated Bremen (4-6) earlier this season 12-7. Expect a much higher score on Friday as the War Eagle offense has continued to improve.
