Weed has the experience needed for PTC Council

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, a few of us in Peachtree City will vote to elect someone to serve on the City Council in the Post 4 position. Although Carol Fritz has dutifully served the city for some time now, I intend to vote for Murray Weed for four reasons.

First, I will vote for Murray Weed because he has more experience in local government operations than all of us combined. He is currently a city attorney in other jurisdictions, he has taught classes for recently elected officials, and he has participated as a concerned resident in our own city council meetings. Murray Weed does not suffer from "a learning curve."

Second, I will vote for Murray Weed because he cares. He cares enough to listen to my concerns, he cares enough to volunteer his time on behalf of the city, and cares enough to run for office. I have spoken with Murray Weed, and I know he will work hard to preserve Peachtree city's sense of community.

Third, I will vote for Murray Weed because he is a consensus-builder. With annexations, traffic congestion, affordable housing, and other divisive issues now dominating city council meetings and local elections, we need someone in Post 4 who has demonstrated an ability to work well with others and bring us together as a city. Murray Weed has succeeded in doing this elsewhere, and I look forward to having him do so here.

Finally, I will vote for Murray Weed because he wants what is best for Peachtree City. And that means a high voter turnout. I think Murray Weed would urge everyone to go to the polls on Tuesday and vote for a new Post 4 council member, regardless of how they intend to vote. A high voter turnout is best for the city, and best for all of us. More importantly, voting is the right thing to do.
