Basketball season is right around the corner and the basketball teams at Starr's Mill are ready to go.

The Lady Panthers, coached by Teresa Hobbs, are a very young team this year. The team has one senior and will start three players who have had limited varsity experience.

"You don't know how things will go until you play," said Hobbs. "We may struggle early but we should get better and better as the season rolls along." Hobbs also noted that the team is aggressive and players have been picking up on things very quickly in practice. The Lady Panthers start their season tomorrow in the Mt. Zion Thanksgiving Tournament.

The boys team is almost the exact opposite. It has five returning players from last year's squad and they are all seniors. The difference is they are under new head coach Carl Thomas. Thomas coached in Perry, Ga., for 13 years and is not bringing his team to a pre-season tournament.

"I expect the seniors to be the backbone of the team," said Thomas. "It's difficult for the kids who have played under a different system for their entire high school career to change in their senior year, but they have done real well so far."

The Starr's Mill boys will kick off their season with a match against East Coweta Nov. 20. at 7 p.m.
