After a shaky start, the Whitewater Middle School softball team finished the season strong. Coaches realized in the first few weeks of practice that the team would be very competitive this year. Their first opponent was Luella Middle School and Whitewater fell in the seventh inning, losing 3-2. Their next game pitted them against Austin Road and Whitewater responded with a 3-2 win with the international tie breaker.

Whitewater won the next three games, setting up a huge game with undefeated Union Grove. The winner of the game would enter the Metro Middle School Athletic League tournament as the top seed. Whitewater lost 7-6 and entered the tournament as the second seed. Whitewater won the final three games of the season, entering the tournament with an 8-2 record.

Their first game in the double-elimination tournament was against Henry County and they won 5-0. Whitewater's next two games were against the two teams that handed them losses in the regular season. They beat both teams, Luella 3-0 and Union Grove 5-0. Whitewater was heading to the championship game, which pitted them against Union Grove one more time. Whitewater came out roaring, putting runs on the board in the first inning and winning their first ever MMSAL title with a 6-1 win.
