Eighth week of season offers interesting matches

The football season is nearing the home stretch and several local teams still have playoff hopes.

East Coweta (6-0) is almost a sure thing for a playoff spot. Tonight, they travel to take on the Henry County Warhawks (1-6). The Indians have been solid on both sides of the ball this season and are looking to run the table.

Starr's Mill (5-2) is also in good shape for returning to the playoffs. The Panthers offense continues to improve and their defense is outstanding. They held Morrow to 51 total yards of offense last week and kept them off the scoreboard. This week they host McIntosh (0-6). The Chiefs have been able to score points on many of their opponents this season, but still give up the big plays on defense.

Sandy Creek (2-4) will host Woodward Academy (1-5) tonight. The team will play the rest of the seaosn without Kedric Golston, who broke his leg in a car accident earlier in the week. Doctors expect Golston to make a full recovery and say he will be able to play football again. Expect the Patriots to come out and play more fired up than usual in Golston's absence. Sandy Creek has had solid perfomances from the offense in the past few weeks and should have no rouble getting oit going tonight. It is still possible for the Patriots to make the playoffs, though other teams will have to help them out.

Landmark Christian (4-2) returns from a bye week tonight. The War Eagles will travel to take on Bowdon (3-3). Landmark will make the playoffs again this year, as all four teams from Region 5-A advance. They have a balanced offensive attack and a very solid defense. Our Lady of Mercy played the Union Grove junior varsity yesterday.

Fayette County (3-4) plays a day game tomorrow against North Clayton (2-4) at Tara Stadium in Jonesboro. The Tigers are hoping to run the table in the coming weeks, though the playoffs are out of the Tigers reach this season.
