Delta workers, pilots' wives combine in Habitat project

Thanks to the efforts of Delta employees, Fairburn now has five more Habitat for Humanity homes.

The workers built the homes starting in the middle of September and finished their labor of love earlier this month.

In order to complete the task, the workers had to have some "fuel" to keep the walls being built and the floors finished.

That's where the members of the Delta Pilot Wives' Club lent a hand.

Vauna Bellury, who handles publicity for the club, said the women in the club juggled their busy schedules to make sure the workers had meals to help fuel their efforts.

"We had to have meals ready for anywhere between 80 and 100 people a day," she said.

Since many of the women in the club work, Bellury said it took a big effort to pick up the food from various locations and get it to the workers in a timely manner.

Some of the women also cooked, and brought their homemade offerings to the workers, who were appreciative of the efforts.

"We just wanted to do something for what we feel is a very good project," Bellury said.

So far, Delta has constructed 11 Habitat homes in the community, and Bellury said more are on the way.

When the hammering starts again, you can rest assured that Bellury and her group will once again be on site to hand out food and drinks to the workers.

"This whole project benefits the community in so many ways," she said.
