Hole in one for ABWA's first golf tournament

With the threat of rain looming over Fayetteville, The McIntosh Charter Chapter of American Business Women's Association had its first golf tournament recently.

Chairmen for the successful fund-raiser were Hallene Minter, Allstate Insurance agent, and Connie Castleberry of the Links Golf Course.

President Dianne Leimbach said it was a victorious event for American Business Women and the community. "I attribute a great portion of the success to the community for their generous donations," she said.

Hole sponsor contributors included Advanced Masonry Concepts Inc., Anthony Michael's Salon, Allstate Insurance Hallene Minter, Arnie's Fine Wine, Bank of America, Benefx, Beltmann, Century 21 Dave Edmondson, Competitive Edge, ERA JoPar Realty, Heritage Bank, Kwik Kopy Printing, Merrill Lynch Dawn O'Rourke, Peachtree National Bank, Peacock Construction, Reese Insurance Associates, Reliv International, Southern Community Bank, State Farm Insurance Jim Weeks, The Complete Insurance Source, Wade Ford, Wildwood Florist and World Gym.

Raffle prizes also were donated by the community. "Prizes awarded were greatly appreciated by the players and further helped the success of our tournament," said Leimbach.

Player Scott Elliott said the Ford Escape, donated by Wade Ford, would have been a great prize had he made a hole in one on number ten. The golf cart on hole number one was donated by Peachtree Golf Cars Inc. The competitive par three hole didn't give players a break that day.

The event began at noon with a shotgun start. First place winners were Greg Johnson, Claude Crisp, Jeff Nealon and Jeff Dorner. Second, third and last place prizes were awarded along with closest to the pin and longest drive.

Funds received for the event will go toward local Scholarships. ABWA's National Scholarship Trust has contributed more than $11 million to women's professional success through education.

ABWA is made up of 70,000 working women across the nation. Its mission is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.
