The local recreation departments are out to do something for the kids this Halloween season. Peachtree City is offering its first Halloween fall festival, while Tyrone and Fayetteville are hosting annual activities. The Peachtree City Recreation Department's Halloween fall festival will have games, prizes, a costume contest, entertainment and a haunted house. The event will take place at the Kedron Fieldhouse in Peachtree City, Saturday, Oct. 27 from noon to 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Luther Holt Memorial All Children's Playground. The Recreation Department is going all out for the event, creating a haunted house entitled "The Caverns of Kedron," and creating an entire mythology for it. The premise is that during the Civil War, an opera house stood on the grounds where the new outdoor multipurpose rink is being built. During construction, caverns leading underground were found where the opera house once stood. Rumor has it that an old caretaker still lurks in the caverns. The story will be explained between noon and 12:30 p.m. with a live stage performance blending music and song. The presentation will be performed by Peachtree City's Maria Pia Ugarte and Howard Burch from East Point. Admission to the haunted house is $3.50 and games at the fall festival are 50 cents each. The costume contest will take place from 2-4 p.m. Party City is sponsoring this event through its Newnan and Fayetteville stores. The haunted house is being designed and operated by Impact Design Group and the stage presentation is being produced by Latin Eyes Productions. For event information phone the Kedron Fieldhouse at 770-631-2525. Tyrone is saving local activities for Halloween itself. The annual Pumpkin Walk will take place at Tyrone Town Hall's pumpkin patch from 8:30-11 a.m. Children from area schools and church preschools bring their carved or decorated pumpkins to be judged. Certificates for participation, awards and prize money will be presented. Trick-or-treating will take place from 3-5 p.m. as toddlers to 11-year-old children can trick-or-treat from business to business. Main Street Fayetteville will have its pumpkin walk Friday morning, with the trick-or-treat beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Heritage Park in Fayetteville. More than 2,500 costumed children are expected to participate in the pumpkin walk, which places decorated jack-o-lanterns around downtown Fayetteville. Also taking place on Halloween will be the Flat Creek Baptist Church fall, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. There will be food, fun and games and fellowship. Admission is free and all-you-can-eat hot dogs are $2 for adults and $1 per child. Phone 770-487-4890. |
