Great Georgia Ghosts return to Holliday House

Old houses tend to be creepy. No matter how hard people try to rid the house of its eeriness, old houses make odd noises and often cast weird shadows.

Fayetteville has an old house that is in the midst of being renovated, the Holliday/Dorsey/Fife House, and some tales will be offered up this weekend to get area children geared up for Halloween.

The Great Georgia Ghost Tours will take place Oct. 26 and 27 at the Holliday/Dorsey/Fife House and City Cemetery in Fayetteville. The scares begin each evening at 7 and tickets may be purchased at the door. Prices are $3 for children under 12, and $5 for adults.

Professional storytellers will be on site during Great Georgia Ghosts and the entire tour is expected to last approximately one hour. The tour will include a stroll down the road to the old City Cemetery where the story telling will continue led by Fayetteville resident Michelle Cox.

Founder and performer Deonna Belcher, a professional storyteller and motivational speaker for all ages, is coordinating the program in conjunction with Nancy Price, Main Street program manager.

"The stories aren't overly scary or gory," said Belcher. "They are mostly tales of folklore and urban legends and are appropriate for children."

"We're expecting a great turnout for this event," remarked Price. "It has been done in years past and was a tremendous success. This year I expect even greater interest since the Holliday/Dorsey/Fife House renovations have just been completed and this will be a wonderful opportunity for the public to see the new look."

Families can make a night of it by first visiting the array of jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins lining the streets around the County Administrative Complex, City Hall and the Old Courthouse as part of the traditional Fayetteville Main Street Pumpkin Walk cosponsored by Fayette Community Hospital, and later by strolling over to the historic house. Awards and festivities for the Pumpkin Walk event kick off at 6 p.m. at Heritage Park. For information phone Fayetteville Main Street at 770-461-6029 or visit the city's Web site at www.fayetteville-ga-us.org.
