Assisted suicide to be discussed at local meetings of Atlanta SW Right to Life Assisted suicide will be the discussion topic for Atlanta SW Right To Life's next meetings scheduled three different nights at three different locations in the south metro Atlanta area. Meetings are planned for Monday, Nov. 5, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Newnan-Coweta Public Library, on Hospital Rd. across from Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital; Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Ramah First Baptist Church in Palmetto, near the Dairy Queen on Highway 29; and Thursday, Nov. 8, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Peachtree City Library, on Ga. Hwy. 54 at City Hall in Peachtree City. The video documentary, "Death As A Salesman: What's Wrong With Assisted Suicide," will be shown and makes the following points which will be discussed at the meeting: · Studies show that 95 percent of suicide victims were mentally ill at the time. Mental illness is treatable. · Terminally ill patients are vulnerable and subject to influence by relatives who may have other motives. · Modern medical techniques can control pain in virtually all circumstances, including terminal conditions. · Even people with severe disabilities can be helped to lead productive and happy lives. · Assisted suicide has led to non-voluntary euthanasia (murder) in the Netherlands.
