Fulton County wants all residents to know that it will not tolerate racial profiling.

Recently, County Commissioner Bill Edwards met with a group of residents to explain the county's policy.

Edwards said the county has made a video that outlines the county's zero-tolerance policy of racial profiling.

An instance of racial profiling would be a law enforcement officer pulling over a vehicle based solely on the race of the driver.

"You can't stop them unless they've done something wrong," Edwards said.

In light of the Sept.11 terrorist attacks, Edwards said residents must use extra sensitivity when dealing with Arab-Americans.

"I saw a whole vanload of Arabs on Auburn Avenue last week. But that doesn't mean they should be pulled over," he said.

Fulton County has not been accused of any racial profiling incidents, which makes Edwards proud.

"We have put our sheriffs, police and marshals through an extensive training class," he said.

Edwards wants to make sure the county's record stays without any incidents and has instructed the county's staff to keep up the vigilance during these troubled times.
