'Creatures of Habit' brings comedy back in style
By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Who says comedy has to be performed on the weekend? Sure, Mad TV and Saturday Night Live have cornered the market on weekend sketch comedy but local comedy troupe Creatures of Habit will perform three live comedy shows at Baci Italian Cuisine in Fayetteville, Mondays, Oct. 22 and 29 and Nov. 5. Creatures of Habit is written and directed by Mike Boylan and features talent from local high schools and theater companies. The material is irreverent and, quite often, hilarious. Sketches skewer topics ranging from crying at kid's movies, cheesy sitcoms, and poor news coverage to unfrozen cavemen and fratricide. The group has been around since 1999 and is looking forward to bringing more comedy shows to the area this year and next. The cast features local actor Brad Boseman, Sandy Creek students Ben Collins, Simon Sharp and Zach Smola, and Starr's Mill students Carlee Baker and Craig DeLorenzo. "They are some of the more gifted actors I have ever worked with," said Boylan. "They bring a lot to the table and have potential to go very far in their acting and comedy careers." So, ignore the fact that it is a school night and forget about having to work in the morning. Creatures of Habit will entertain you and still get you home by a reasonable time. The shows will start at 7:30 p.m. and doors will open at 7 p.m. Admission is $6 and the cast promises something a little different at each show. |
