PTC Classic road race celebrates their 20th year Over 2,800 runners signed on to run the 20th annual Peachtree City Classic held last Saturday. Many of the runners from 15 states and throughout Georgia commented on the beautiful course and the organization of the event. "The 20th year for the Classic was indeed another success," said race director Carolyn Gulick. "The rain held off, the volunteers were excellent and plentiful, and sponsors were on hand, handing out food, samples, free gifts and information. The Peachtree City Running Club and their volunteers worked with the City of Peachtree City and their personnel to once again put on a great event." The winner of the 15K National Championship in the Men's Division was 18-year-old Robert Finch II of Athens. He completed the course in 55:38. Placing second was Fayetteville's Bob Dalton, 48, with a time of 56:57, and third place went to Travid Birts, 34, of Marietta, with a time of 57:24. In the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) 15K master's mens division, Sam Norman, 48, of Decatur, ga. placed first with a time of 56:12. Peachtree City resident John Quinlan, 40, came in second with a time of 56:57. In thrid place was Tom Minor, 42 of Fortson, Ga. In the Women's 15K National Championship, first place went to Connie Robertson, 39, of Hapeville, with a time of 59:43. Sue Bozgoz, 37, placed second with a time of 1:03.19. In third place was Kristen Behlendorf, 25, of Atlanta with a time of 1:04.34. The Women's Masters RRCA 15K National Champion was Vickie Johnson, 53, of Atlanta with a time of 1:06.55. Second place went to Marietta's Aja James, 41, with a time of 1:08.13. Forty year old Angie Major of Atlanta placed third with a time of 1:08.33. Joey Knight of Marietta won the Men's 5K with a time of 16:34, while Fayetteville's John Miklas placed second with a time of 16:35. Peachtree City's Don Livingston placed third with a time of 17:11. In the Masters Division, Kennesaw's George Taylor finished first with a time of 18:37. Peter Heidbroder of Dunwoody placed second with a time of 18:44 and Senoia resident Jimmy Roberts finished third with a time of 19:12. The winner of the Women's 5K was Atlanta resident Deanna Walsh with a time of 19:13. Emily Reese, 11, of Dunwoody, placed second with a time of 19:24. Kelly Greene of Athens placed third with a time of 20:57. The Master's Womens 5K was won by Cherolynn Weaver of College park with a time of 20:27. Peachtree City's Paula May placed second with a time of 21:06. Third place went to Beth Galvin Yalowic of Tampa, Fla. with a time of 21:45.
