Lady Tigers head to state tournament in Columbus tomorrow

The Fayette County Lady Tiger varsity fast pitch softball team is heading to the state tournament in Columbus tomorrow. They are area champions and have accumulated a 29-3 record. The team traveled to Valdosta last friday and won all three games to qualify for the final round of the state softball playoffs.

The first game for Fayette County was against Northside-Warner Robins. The Lady Tigers won 10-0 as Paige Phillips drove in three runs and Megan Nichols drove in two runs. Pamela O'Neal also crossed the plate twice in the victory. Bonnie Bynum pitched a solid game, giving up two hits and striking out 10.

The second game for the Lady Tigers was against Glynn Academy. Fayette County won 7-0, as Bynum threw a no-hitter and struck out 14 batters. She also drove in two runs. Katie Gaspierik and Ashley Logan each drove in a run as well as Fayette County cruised to the final round of the sectionals.

The final game pitted Fayette County against Hardaway which the Lady Tigers won 2-1. Becky Carder was a hero for the team as she hit a sacrifice fly that drove in Stefanie Norman. O'Neal also drove in a run. Defensively, the team played awesome. Bynum threw a one hitter and struck out 12 batters and Ashley Holcombe picked off a runner at first. Another defensive gem was made by Paige Phillips who made a diving catch in the seventh inning.

Fayette County now heads to Columbus. their first game will be tomorrow at 7 p.m. when they take on Harrison.
