Terrorists
attacked Islam as well as U.S.
The Islamic Speakers' Bureau of Atlanta would like to express its deepest gratitude to the caring and understanding citizens of Fayette County. We thank everyone who has chosen to keep an open mind and to understand that the attackers are different from the vast majority of Muslims around the world. Furthermore, we would like to urge everyone to turn these tragic events into an opportunity to better understand the multiple cultures and beliefs that make this country a true "melting pot." With catch phrases like "Arab terrorists" and "Muslim extremists" it is easy to follow stereotypes and brand an entire group as aggressors. These stereotypes could not be further from the truth. No extremist group is indicative of an entire community. Islam condemns disregard for human life and disruption of security. Islam is a religion that embraces peace and commands that its true followers be holders of peace, not terror. Like all Americans, the Muslim community in America enjoys the freedom and feeling of security that the United States offers us all. That is why we call America home. We are proud to be called and to call ourselves Americans. We mourn the losses as much as any other American. We lost the same freedoms on Sept. 11, and the same sense of security. At least 800 American Muslims are missing in the rubble of the World Trade Center. The terrorists attacked America as a whole, every faith and every culture. It is also important to note that Islam is a diverse religion. Just as America is home to many people from many ethnic backgrounds, Islam is a religion practiced by an equally diverse people, all believing in a fair and just God, who does not advocate hatred, but love, compassion, and understanding. The Islamic Speakers Bureau would like to invite any questions the community may have. We encourage everyone to seek answers in a complicated time. We also hope to learn more about the concerns and beliefs of others in the community. Anyone interested can contact us at 404-377-8380 or visit our website at http://www.isb-atl.org.
