Ostrowski: Represent the 'average citizen'

My name is Jerry (Gerald) Ostrowski and I am throwing in my hat for Peachtree City Council Post 4. Let me tell you some basics about myself.

I am currently a flight attendant with Delta Airlines. I have worked with Delta since 1978 in various customer-service-related positions, in several different cities. Most times not moving by choice, but job restructuring such as Delta's 7.5 Program.

It has been an interesting journey for myself, my wife and four children. I have been married for 13 years and our children's ages range from age 4 to age 12. We have lived in Peachtree City since 1996 when we were given Atlanta (our last choice) as my job was contracted out in Jacksonville, Fla.

Peachtree City has been a great last choice and certainly surpassed our expectations of a typical suburbia-type city. The schools, people and environment have made us feel "at home." I would like to help keep that feeling alive for all current and new citizens. I feel my work and several moves within Peachtree City will help give me the knowledge of many citizens and their ideas for a better Peachtree City. I pride myself on being a great listener and promise to always act upon the views of the citizens I represent.

I was born outside of Detroit, Mich., and recently celebrated my 25-year high school reunion (although I'm not sure that is the correct terminology).

In light of the Sept. 11 attacks, it was just good to se everyone alive and well. My background includes two years of business at McComb University in Michigan. My personal priorities will always be my family and trying to be the best dad in Peachtree City. I encourage any challengers.

I hope to encourage all parents to help communicate better with their fellow citizens so we can make a great future for all of our children. I believe we have the potential to make this city greater and stop the closed door "politicians-government-agencies-know-best" agenda and put the people back in the forefront. I am a great team player. I feel we must put the taxpayers ideas/decisions first or we will continue to slowly lose the great ideals this country was founded upon.

I grew up idolizing my grandfather who was the Detroit fire chief. His voice was respected and building developments were dependent upon his approval. I will work to insure the fire department, police department and school authorities have a better way to offer their expertise. While I admire the perseverance of all the achievements of my opponents, I feel I am more qualified to represent the concerns of the average citizen.

My personal long-term goal is to someday join the Peace Corps with my wife when my children are grown.

Please contact me by e-mail at hockeyX855@aol.com or phone 770-486-4898. Never hesitate to chat about your concerns if I see any of you around town. (I'm almost a permanent fixture at Kroger/Publix.)

Thank you.

Gerald Ostrowski
