Getting back to normal?

In the aftermath of the terrorist attack, some are saying they'll be glad when things get back to normal. Personally, I hope it never gets back to normal. If you mean by normal, that we will return to the extreme cynicism toward our elected officials, I don't want to get back to normal. If you mean that we will return to our self-consumed lifestyles, I don't want to return to normal.

If you mean that our nation will return to spending billions on pornography, I don't want to return to normal. If you mean that Americans will continue to take the lives of 4,000 unborn children every day (almost the number killed in New York) through abortion, I don't want to return to normal.

If you mean that we will return to the excessive crime, drug abuse, unwed mothers, and divorce rates, I don't want it to return to normal. If you mean that we will return to the petty bickering and fighting within our families, I don't want to return to normal. If you mean that we will stop praying, waving flags, and singing "God Bless America," then I don't want to return to normal.

I have seen some very positive things happen in the midst of this horrible tragedy. We have a new appreciation for our country and elected officials, especially our president. We have a new honor and respect for firemen and law officers. We have a new sense of patriotism like I have not seen in my lifetime. We have a new appreciation for our neighbors, our families and our churches. And most importantly, people are praying and seeking after God.

Prior to the attack, there was a growing philosophy in our country that there was no such thing as absolute truth. We were told that everything was relative and matters of right and wrong were only one's opinion. Well, I believe we can all agree that the attack on New York and Washington, D.C. was morally wrong and the actions by the firefighters and police were morally right. There IS absolute truth!

I stand fully behind our president, and elected officials, as they seek to bring justice to those who did this terrible thing. Regardless, I hope it never gets back to "normal."
