Local cross country squads run well at LaGrange By MICHAEL

Several local schools competed in the LaGrange Cross Country Invitational last weekend and did well. In the boys AAAAA/AAAA race, Fayette County and Starr's Mill placed first and second with 89 and 106 points respectively. Landmark's boys competed in the A/AA/AAA division and won with 62 points overall. All three schools had runners in the top 15 overall. Landmark runners in the top 15 were Clark Rivers, third, 16:35; Blake Fertitta, sixth, 16:51; and Chris Rogers, 12th, 17:20. Fayette County's runners in the top 15 were John Miklas, fourth, 16:42 and Blake Alverson, seventh, 16:59. Starr's Mill's Bradley Morris placed 14th with a time of 17:21. In the girls AAAAA/AAAA race, Starr's Mill placed third, Sandy Creek placed fifth and Fayette County placed 10th. Landmark's girls placed fourth in the A/AA/AAA race. The only local runner in the top 15 overall was Starr's Mill's Katie Hughes, who finished 11th with a time of 20:55. McIntosh and Starr's Mill will send their cross country squads to the Alexander High School Invitational on saturday, while Fayette County competes in the Westover Invitational. All four Fayette County schools will compete at Sandy Creek next Wednesday in the County Championships. The racing is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
