Local teams face tough tests

The nights are getting cooler and it is being hailed by some as "perfect football weather." Not only is the weather perfect but some of this weekend's match-ups should be outstanding.

Starr's Mill (3-1) travels to Tara Stadium again tonight. to take on Lovejoy (4-0). The Panthers have been bolstered by super defensive efforts this season and the offense is improving from game to game. Rodrigues Heard got his first start of the season last week and gained 60 yards on the ground as the panthers had 150 yards rushing.

East Coweta (3-0) has a long road trip ahead of them this afternoon as they travel to Augusta to take on Evans (0-4). The Indians defeated Fayette County 44-21 last week and have had a strong season so far. East Coweta has a balanced offensive attack with many weapons, including Preston Stricklin who ran for 156 yards last week.

Fayette County (1-3) plays at home this evening as they take on the Henry County Warhawks (1-3). The Tigers have had to face some very talented teams in the past few weeks and have given a super effort. The Warhawks have some talented athletes in the skill positions, but tailback Raymond thomas has been injured and has seen limited playing time.

McIntosh (0-3) is at home as well this evening as they take on Newnan (4-0). The Cougars will be the biggest challenge for the Chiefs so far this season. Newnan has scored over 40 points a game in their four wins, while McIntosh has scored 12 points total. Coach Prosser is hoping that the team can slow down running back Rod Gray and not give up any big plays.

Sandy Creek (0-3) finally gets a home game tonight and fittingly the school will celebrate their homecoming. The Patriots must face yet another top ten team from AAAA as they host Jones County (3-1) tonight. The Patriots got an outstanding effort from their defense last week and were still in the game heading into the final quarter.

Landmark Christian (3-1) hosts Bremen tonight. The War Eagles lost to Adairsville, 7-6 last week but saw a solid performance from the defense. Our Lady of Mercy traves to take on Glascock County and Pace Christian travels to take on the Newnan Christian Rams at 5 p.m.
