The high school football season continued last Friday and Starr's Mill and East Coweta continued their winning streaks, while Fayette County, Sandy Creek and McIntosh continued their losing streaks. Landmark Christian was handed their first loss on Friday as they fell to Adairsville and Our Lady of Mercy got back to their winning ways with a win over Spalding's JV last Thursday.

Starr's Mill faced Mt. Zion, Jonesboro on Friday and came away with a 10-7 win. The Panthers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a 45 yard field goal from Jon Vickers, but went into the half trailing 7-3. The score remained the same with just under four minutes to play. Jake Jones ran for a two yard touchdown, capping off a nine play, 34 yard scoring drive. The Panthers were once again led by an impressive defense. Erik Advincula had 13 tackles on the night, including a sack on the Bulldogs final possession of the game. Starr's Mill had 150 yards rushing, 60 of which came from Rodrigues Heard. Starr's Mill will travel to Tara Stadium again this Friday as they take on the Lovejoy Wildcats.

Fayette County had the daunting task of playing East Coweta on the road last Friday. The Tigers were down 10-0 early but put together an 80 yard scoring drive to cut the lead to three. East Coweta then jumped ahead again, scoring 27 straight points. The Tigers responded with two more touchdowns, one off of a fumble recovery. Matt Owens finished the evening with 101 yards rushing, 44 of which came on their 80 yard scoring drive in the first half. Quarterback Jeff Crisp had 137 yards passing and a touchdown pass to Chris Milewski. The Tigers will host Henry County this Friday.

Sandy Creek (0-3) hasn't had a home game all year and has had to face three ranked teams in a row. This past week saw the Patriots take on Creekside and lose 34-14. The Patriots scored first off of a Kelvin German touchdown. German finished the evening with 117 yards rushing, 110 of which came in the first half. The Patriots only other score of the night came when Riley Swanson blocked a punt and linebacker Brooks Martin ran the recovered fumble 20 yards for a touchdown. The defense looked good for the Patriots. They held the Seminoles to 105 yards in the first half. Kedric Golston had four sacks and two forced fumbles and Stephen Lawson had nine tackles. Sandy Creek gets to come home this Friday, fittingly for Homecoming. The Patriots will host ninth ranked Jones County.

McIntosh faced an improved Eagle's Landing squad and lost 20-9. The Chiefs led 9-7 at one point after quarterback Luke Wiggs threw a touchdown pass to Greg Vann. The Chief defense could not stop Robbie McLen, who rushed for 180 yards and a touchdown. McIntosh will host Newnan this Friday. Landmark Christian faced Adairsville on the road and lost 7-6. This week the War Eagles will host Bremen.

After suffering their first loss of their second football campaign last week, the Bobcats from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School came back strong, winning 27-12 against the JV Jaguars from Spalding High School.

The Bobcats (3-1) got two touchdowns from Jeff Smith who had a 40 yard touchdown run and a one yard touchdown run. Smith ended the game with 100 yards on 11 carries. His performance marked the first time in Bobcat football history that a player rushed for 100 yards. Sam Etuk added to the Bobcat scoring with a six yard touchdown run. Etuk had 51 yards on eight carries. Quarterback Ralph Woolfolk scored the other touchdown on an 13 yard run after faking a pitch. Mercy was lead on defense by nose guard Teddy Morris, linebackers John Fink and Alex Hooper, defensive lineman Romey Troske and defensive end Noso Moh. The Bobcats are back in action on Friday as they travel to Augusta to take on the varsity club from Glasscock County.
