Local teams travel this week to play important games

The road is calling many of the local high school football teams. In fact, the only team playing at home tonight is East Coweta (2-0), which hosts Fayette County (1-2).

East Coweta defeated North Clayton 45-0 last Friday, while Fayette County lost to Lovejoy, 14-7. Both the Tigers and Indians have solid offenses built upon a good running game. Their defenses have also proven themselves so far this season. If the Tigers can slow down Preston Stricklin, they have a chance to be in this one, while East Coweta needs to continue to dominate on defense and force mistakes.

Starr's Mill (2-1) travels to Tara Stadium tonight to face Mt. Zion, Jonesboro (1-1). The Panthers have won two games in a row, defeating Fayette County in overtime and Riverdale 14-7 last week. The Panthers have a good running game and a defense that controls the pace of most games. They will have to keep the Bulldogs wrapped up this Friday to win this important region road game.

McIntosh (0-2) lost to Jonesboro last week and did not put any numbers on the scoreboard. They have some decent running backs and can open up the passing game if the ground attack gets going. Eagle's Landing (2-1) has improved in the off season. They lost last week to Morrow, but have a big time running back in Robbie McLen, who has rushed for over 100 yards in the Golden Eagles three games this season. McIntosh will have to play mistake free ball and force some Eagle's Landing mistakes to get their first win of the season tonight.

Sandy Creek (0-2) is back in action tonight after a long time off. Their game against Pickens was postponed due to the tragedy and was followed the next week with a bye. Tonight, they face fifth ranked Creekside, their third ranked opponent in a row. It is also the Patriots third consecutive game on the road. The Patriots have played solid defense against tough competition and would like to see their offense get moving tonight and put some numbers up on the scoreboard.

Landmark Christian (3-0) hits the road tonight to take on Adairsville. The War Eagles have improved greatly in the offseason. Their defense has been stifling. Last week, they held Gordon Lee to 46 yards rushing for the entire game. Their offense led by quarterback Alex Mortensen, has been equally impressive. Mortensen threw two touchdown passes last week to Jason Godbee.

All kickoffs are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
