The McIntosh Lady Chiefs Varsity Volleyball team held on to their state ranking in the Georgia Volleyball Coaches Association poll yet another week. Currently ranked 14th in the state, the McIntosh squad brought in another series of victories last week over tough opponents.

In play last week, McIntosh defeated state-ranked Collins Hill in two straight games, 15-10,15-11 as the Chiefs started out with an 8-0 lead in game two against a surprised Collins Hill. Bartels had mulitple kills and several nice blocks as Wallis displayed good attacks at the net. McIntosh defeated the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers for the second time this season in spite of a slow start, 14-16, 15-8, 15-7.

In game one McIntosh jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but was plagued with poor passing and serving errors as the Panthers fought back to tie the score at 4-4. The game continued as a struggle with never more than one point separating the two teams on long volleys until Starr's Mill took advantage 16-14. Game two again saw close play initially though McIntosh pulled ahead with better passing and setting and balanced hitting attacks by Watkins, Jenny Dunn and Bartels. McIntosh and Starr's Mill met for their final match in regular season play on Monday at Fayette County High School.

McIntosh took a loss at the hands of the powerhouse volleyball squad from Woodward Academy but only after a tough battle, 4-15, 15-13 and 10-15. The War Eagles took game one easily from an intimidated Lady Chiefs as Woodward's power hitters slammed home points early in the match and doubled their defense against Bartels. The "Comeback Chiefs" rallied to upset a shocked Woodward 15-13 with excellent net play by Watkins, Hamilton and Bartels. Watkins found the hole in the Woodward defense and served well to tie up the score. The Lady Chiefs then scored the next five points unanswered to win 15-13. Game three saw McIntosh take an early lead but soon the Lady War Eagles regained their balance with their set-and-kill machine to take the lead.

McIntosh easily defeated North Clayton and Riverdale teams last week at North Clayton. The entire depth of the McIntosh squad saw action as the Lady Chiefs defeated North Clayton 15-6, 15-0 and again over Riverdale, 15-3, 15-10.

McIntosh also defeated the Lady Patriots of Sandy Creek in two straight games on Thursday night at McIntosh, 15-6, 15-11 as the entire depth of the McIntosh squad contributed to the win. Natalie Crowley paced game one with strong serves as did strong hitting from the Chiefs' offense. Marci Nessing served out the last three points to give McIntosh a 15-6 win. Game two saw long volleys as all the members of the squad saw playing time. Sarah Rossetti contributed good hitting while Laura Stewart and Alice Lowery served well for the Lady Chiefs to achieve the 15-11 win in game two. There was also great setting by seniors Allison Cheatham and Tara Hamilton

The Lady Chiefs host their last home matches of the season, Sept. 27 on Senior Night vs. Woodward and East Coweta and all McIntosh students will be admitted to the matches that night free of charge.
