Cross country teams run at Carrollton instead of Sandy Creek

The Sandy Creek Invitational cross country meet was scheduled for this past Saturday, but since the Carrollton Inviational had been postponed from the previous week all of the teams scheduled to go to Sandy Creek raced at Carrollton instead.

The four county high schools had their boys squads competing in the championship division of the race. McIntosh placed sixth, Starr's Mill finished seventh, Fayette County placed eighth and Sandy Creek finished 17th.

The top five finishers for the Chiefs were Shaun Emery, 12, 17:03; Randy Hutchinson, 28, 17:52; Anthony Collier-Quinn, 45, 18:22; Ben Brantly, 51, 18:30; and Mike Bowman, 56, 18:35. The top five finishers for Starr's Mill were Andrew Barnes, 35, 18:04; Jason Buttram, 37, 18:09; Richard Epton, 38, 18:09; Bradley Morris, 39, 18:12 and Craig Hyatt, 46, 18:22. Fayette County's top five were John Miklas, 19, 17:30; Blake Alverson,20, 17:41; Earl Barlow, 47, 18:23; Ryan Wolfe, 53, 18:32 and Ian Stewart, 73, 18:58. The top five finishers for the Patriots were Chris Wilson, 109, 19:44; Jason Stevens, 130, 20:19; Matt Aycock, 141, 20:41; John Fields, 142, 20:46 and Matt Coffey, 153, 22:02.

In the girls championship division, McIntosh placed third, Starr's Mill finished ninth and Sandy Creek finished 14th. Fayette County raced in the AAAAA division and placed 10th.

The top five runners for the Lady Chiefs were Judy Thomasson, 4, 20:33; Dana Van Winkle, 8, 20:50; Elizabeth gardner, 10, 21:16; Mary Crofton, 38, 22:49 and Nicole Degner, 45, 23:03. Starr's Mill's to five were Heather Krehbiel, 12, 21:26; Katy Hughes, 20, 22:03; Jennifer Kroupa, 79, 24:03; Leigh Ann Norris, 80, 24:03 and Katy Underwood, 91, 24:23. Sandy Creek's top five runners were Ashley Blackburn, 58, 23:22; Hilary Vernon, 94,24:36; Savannah Beebe, 100. 24:52; Stephanie Boettcher, 101, 25:00 and Jae Lynch, 106, 25:08. Fayette County's top five were Kyle Magerl, 28, 25:05; Kerry Magerl, 46, 26:03; Stephanie Patterson, 72, 27:27; Allison Nelms, 79, 28:09 and Jennifer Davis, 80, 28:09.

McIntosh is scheduled to run today at the Run at the Beach meet at the Clayton County International Park in Jonesboro at 5:30 p.m. Fayette County will run at the LaGrange invitational on Saturday morning.
