Play resumes, streaks continue By MICHAEL

The local high school football teams were back in action on Friday, with the exception of the Sandy Creek patriots who had a bye. For teams like Landmark Christian and Starr's Mill, this week saw their winning streaks continue, while Fayette County and McIntosh saw their losing streaks continue. The Starr's Mill Panthers (2-1) defeated the Riverdale Raiders (2-1), 14-7. Quarterback Patrick Mullinix connected with Johnny Edwards for a 20 yard touchdown pass for one of the Panthers touchdowns, while Recarta Heard produced a nine yard touchdown run for the other score. Chris Strauch led the Panthers in rushing with 82 yards. Starr's Mill, currently ranked sixth in Class AAAAA, will play at Tara Stadium on Friday when they tale on the Mt. Zion, Jonesboro Bulldogs (1-1). Landmark Christian improved to 3-0 with a 16-6 win over Gordon Lee. Quarterback Alex Mortensen produced two touchdown passes to Jason Godbee, who had 70 yards receiving on four catches. The War Eagle defense was equally impressive in the win, holding Gordon Lee to just 46 yards rushing on the night. Landmark will travel to Adairsville this Friday. Fayette County (1-2) hosted Lovejoy (3-0) on Friday night and lost 14-7. The Tigers touchdown came when quarterback Jeff Crisp connected with Steven West on a four yard touchdown pass. Crisp finished the night 16 of 29 for 98 yards passing. Fayette County has a tough test ahead of them this Friday when they travel to Garland Shoemake stadium to take on East Coweta (2-0). The Indians, currently ranked fourth in Class AAAAA, defeated North Clayton on Friday, 45-0. McIntosh (0-2) faced Jonesboro (1-2) on Friday and lost 21-0. The Chiefs had 104 yards rushing and allowed 271 yards rushing. McIntosh made a lot of penalties and could never get their offense going. The Chiefs will travel to take on Eagle's Landing (2-1) on Friday. Eagle's landong lost to Morrow, 19-14 on Friday. They have improved in the off season and have a running threat in Robbie McLen. McLen has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the team's three games. Our Lady of Mercy (3-1) was handed their first loss last thursday as they hosted the Callaway Cavaliers junior varsity team. Callway won 14-12, despite 85 yards rushing from Sam Etuk and a first half touchdown run of 11 yards from Jeff Smith. Our Lady of Mercy will host Spalding at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sandy Creek (0-2) had a bye last week. The Patriots have faced ranked opponents in their first two games. The trend continues this Friday as they travel to take on Creekside, currently ranked fifth in Class AAAA.
