"In spite of everything, I still believe that people are good at heart." Anne Frank.

The story of Anne Frank is a familiar one. Forced to hide from the Nazis with her family and four others in an attic for over two years, Frank wrote about her experiences in her diary. After the war, one of the family's friends had her diary published.

Since its first publication, "The Diary of Anne Frank" has been translated into 67 languages and has been produced as a play and movie. Two local theater companies are doing very different productions of this classic and agonizingly true tale starting this week.

Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn will present "The Diary Of Anne Frank" beginning tomorrow. The play is a new adaptation of the original stage play and newly discovered writings from her diary.

The Main Street Players of Griffin will present "Yours, Anne," a musical adaptation of "The Diary of Anne Frank." It will be the first show in the group's new theater at 115 North Hill St., Griffin. "Yours, Anne" originally opened in New York in 1985 and ran for six months at Playhouse 91.

Anne Frank's story is a touching one filled with humor and passion. Not only was Frank dealing with the constant fear of being found by the Nazis, but she was dealing with the normal emotions of a teenage girl. Her experiences through such a turbulent time in history as well as her life have made her story resonate with millions of readers.

Southside Theatre Guild will present "The Diary of Anne Frank" Thursdays-Saturdays through Oct. 6. Performances will be at 8 p.m. and admission is $12 for adults and $10 for students. Phone 770-969-0956.

The Main Street Players will present "Yours, Anne" Thursdays through Sundays through Sept. 30. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Phone 770-229-9916.

The Griffin Regional Welcome Center will also have a presentation of photos depicting the life and legacy of Anne Frank. The center, at 143 North Hill St., Griffin, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday and evenings by appointment. Admission to the photo exhibit is free. Phone 770-228-8200, ext. 231.
